—YEAR HIGHLIGHTS

We’ve developed a Pathway to Zero

plan to reduce incident levels to zero.

The plan integrates our rail safety, WHS

and environmental management systems

bringing an integrated approach that will

drive consistency, efficiency and clarity

in order to achieve our objectives.

We introduced a new process for the

investigation of environmental, rail safety,

and work health and safety events needing

formal investigation. Incident Cause

Analysis Methodology (ICAM) provides

a rigorous framework to establish facts

behind an incident and build the corrective

actions and controls to ensure they are not

repeated. To date we’ve trained 171 of our

team in ICAM.

We have continued to administer drug

and alcohol testing to ensure the safety

of our team across the network. We also

built the capacity of selected management

representatives to deliver on-site testing

in addition to testing done by independent

third parties.

We achieved a record low result for Lost

Time Injury Frequency Rate (number of

injuries for every million hours worked).

We supported Rail RUOK? Day with

47 separate morning teas hosted

by our teams across the country.

We’ve continued to support the Office

of the National Rail Safety Regulator

(ONRSR) and the commitment towards

national reform. In 2017, we saw

Queensland join, which brings all Australian

states and territories under one rail safety

regulator. ARTC works with ONRSR and

the rail industry to ensure safe railway

operations and promote national rail safety.
