At ARTC we’re committed to respecting
the many communities and environments
we operate in. We recognise that moving
valuable freight from destination to
destination around the country can have an
impact on our local communities. Despite rail
freight being the most sustainable and safe
land transport mode available, we have a
commitment to being a responsible neighbour
and operator.
We delivered the following environmental
initiatives this year:
•
•
Updated our noise prediction tools to better
assess construction and maintenance noise
and released new guidelines to improve the
way our teams manage noise and vibration
from rail maintenance activities.
•
•
As a trial, partnered with a train operator,
monitoring driver horn usage to assess
whether residential area signage can reduce
horn use while still satisfying all usage and
safety requirements.
•
•
Continued to work with our industry
stakeholders to learn as much as we can
about coal deposition in the rail corridor.
•
•
Upgraded our eco-mapping technology
to improve the quality of environmental
assessments.
•
•
Launched an improved environmental
induction for our new starters with a more
informative and interactive approach to
increase engagement.
•
•
Improved our incident reporting procedures
to ensure they remain relevant, effective
to use and drive the right standard of
investigation.
•
•
The Hunter Valley Our Community Working
Group has been established to identify,
prioritise and respond to environmental
and community opportunities and issues,
and aims to ensure an integrated approach
to the delivery of programs and actions.
Some recent initiatives of the group
include the development of a community
engagement plan, improvements to our
community notification process for corridor
works, cleaning up of the Singleton yard
and planning for rehabilitation of a River Red
Gum site in Muswellbrook.
