—OVERVIEW

The past 12 months have been a period

of transformation for Inland Rail as the

largest rail freight project in Australia

progressed planning, land acquisition

and preliminary design as part of pre-

construction activities. Inland Rail will

complete the ‘spine’ of the national

freight network between Melbourne and

Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South

Wales and Queensland, linking to the

existing freight connections at the Port

of Melbourne and Port of Brisbane.

We’ve been working with our

Shareholders on the funding strategy

for Inland Rail, the cornerstone of which

is the additional equity investment

of $8.4 billion over seven years from

2017-18. In addition we will enter into

a Public Private Partnership (PPP) for

the Gowrie to Kagaru section, the most

complex element of the project, and

assume a moderate increase in gearing

by ARTC to support the project. We

have now commenced the 10-year

delivery schedule, developed in 2015.

In a business landscape that involves

numerous landowners, all three levels

of Government and many diverse

industry groups and businesses,

Inland Rail has placed community and

stakeholder engagement in the centre

of all areas in which we work. We are

using the local knowledge gained

through this engagement to identify

local and national opportunities that

Inland Rail can deliver to Australia.
