—ARTC NETWORK

CONTROL

OPTIMISATION

(ANCO)

Changes to the way we plan the

paths of trains has the potential

to save hundreds of millions of

dollars over the next 10 years.

The ANCO project will see

Network Control make use of

innovative digital tools to help

plan optimum train paths and

make just-in-time adjustments.

This will reduce transit time and

provide savings while making

more efficient use of available

track and train assets.

The increased capacity will

provide our customers with the

opportunity to increase their

contracted tonnage and allow

us to selectively defer capital

expenditure on new track.

—MUSWELLBROOK

TO TURRAWAN

RE-RAILING

The $85.5 million re-railing

and upgrade of the 500 rail-

kilometre Muswellbrook to

Turrawan section now means

the entire Hunter Valley

network allows for 30 Tonne

Axle Load services. With a 20

percent increase in loading now

possible, this means faster and

heavier trains can run between

Turrawan and the port providing

a more efficient option for our

customers.

—KOORAGANG

ARRIVAL ROADS 2

(KAR2)

Additional track and

embankments at the primary

Newcastle coal terminal have

provided increased capacity and

easier access for our customers.

The $29 million Kooragang

Arrival Roads 2 project allows

more loaded coal trains to be

stored in front of the dump

stations and assists with

the sequencing of trains.

This expanded capacity also

minimises delays and allows

continued movement during

dump station mechanical faults.

The ability to ensure the correct

train is at the correct dump

station is vital to the separation

of the coal grades and this

upgrade allows greater flexibility

and ease of access, increasing

capacity.

The project was successfully

commissioned in late 2016 after

commencing in June 2012.
