PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
The principal activities of the Group
during the year were the provision
of rail access and infrastructure
management of rail networks,
either owned or leased by ARTC.
SIGNIFICANT
CHANGES IN THE
STATE OF AFFAIRS
There were three events which
contributed to the significant
changes in the state of affairs of
the Group during the financial year:
1. Inland Rail Activities and
Funding Announcement:-
During 2016/7 ARTC progressively
increased pre-construction activity
relating to the Inland Rail project
on the back of the $300 million
grant (2015) and $594 million equity
(2016) funding commitments by the
Federal Government.
In the May 2017 Federal Budget the
Government announced a further
$8.4billion equity injection to ARTC over
coming years to fund the delivery of the
Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail project.
Inland Rail will provide a 1,700km high-
capacity freight link between Melbourne
and Brisbane through regional Australia
to better connect products to domestic
and international markets. Inland Rail
will deliver a dedicated high productivity
rail freight corridor also saving lives by
getting freight off roads and onto rail.
The Government further announced
that the 126km section from Toowomba
to Kagaru, including large scale tunnelling,
will be delivered by ARTC through
a Public Private Partnership (PPP).
Under this delivery arrangement the
private sector will design, build, finance
and maintain this section of the railway
over a long-term concession period.
Following the Budget announcement
ARTC has commenced accelerated
activity to progress the next stages
of this material project.
