John Fullerton

Chief Executive Officer

We are committed to working with

Victorian agencies to identify the most

effective way to invest the $100 million

committed by the Australian Government

to undertake further upgrades between

Melbourne and Albury.

Through 2017, we also responded to the impact

of industrial action in NSW and Victoria, as well

as operational issues such as severe weather

incidents. Importantly, our customers have

commended our ability to restore services

safely and effectively in these circumstances.

—A CONTINUED FOCUS

ON IMPROVING RAIL’S

COMPETITIVENESS

In addition to Inland Rail, work continues

on initiatives to grow rail’s competitiveness

in the national freight market.

We progressed four substantial technology-

based projects:

Advanced Train Management

System (ATMS)

ARTC Network Control Optimisation

Project (ANCO)

Asset Management Improvement

Project (AMIP), and

Customer Portal.

ATMS and ANCO in particular will be major

drivers of greater efficiency in the rail supply

chain.

The Customer Portal also entered its next

stage, after completion of the first phase of

this customer initiative – to provide real time

information of trains on our network.

We also progressed or commissioned a number

of capital infrastructure projects across

the Interstate and Hunter Valley networks,

including: The Adelaide-Tarcoola Re-railing

Acceleration Upgrade project; the Port Botany

Rail Line Upgrade (Stage 3); Melbourne-

Adelaide Loops Extension project and the

Kooragang Arrival Roads project. In addition,

we supported the introduction of new terminal

and agribusiness connections into our network.

These projects are all discussed further

in this report.

—OUR UNIQUE POSITION

AND CAPABILITY PLACES

US WELL FOR THE FUTURE

As we approach 2018, we remain conscious

and focused on our core business. We will

not lose sight of the importance of daily

delivery, service performance and safety while

continuing the transformation of our business

to one that is fully customer focused.

We have a unique position in the national

supply chain and our capability and experience

to deliver on these outcomes is demonstrated

by our success through the year.

In closing, I acknowledge all our key

stakeholders and communities in which we

operate for their ongoing support. I recognise

that it is the dedication and commitment of

our employees that drives our business and

makes it successful.

I would particularly like to thank the Board

for their guidance throughout the year.
