RESPONSIBILITY
OUR OBJECTIVE IS A NEUTRAL OR
BENEFICIAL OUTCOME FOR THREATENED
SPECIES AND ENDANGERED ECOLOGICAL
COMMUNITIES POTENTIALLY IMPACTED
BY OUR ACTIVITIES.
ARTC manages environmental
risks in all our activities and
achieves environmental
management measures within
our licences. This is detailed
within the ARTC Environmental
Management System which
is undergoing continual
development and improvement.
In New South Wales, ARTC is
continuing to develop pollution
reduction programs under its
Environmental Protection Licence. In
2011-12 these focused on developing
and carrying out a monitoring
program to measure particulate
emissions from coal trains at two
locations in the Hunter Valley.
In South Australia, ARTC is con-
tinuing to complete environmental
improvement programs under its
Environmental Protection Licence.
This is achieved through activities
such as participation in the New
South Wales Biobanking Scheme
and habitat restoration with the
installation of nest boxes to provide
shelter, promote breeding and give
protection for many native species.
ARTC are active in noise
management including the
continuation of noise monitoring at
two locations on the ARTC Network;
Heathfield, South Australia and
Metford, New South Wales.
