ABOUT
ARTC
We are one of Australia’s
largest rail network owners,
operating and managing more
than 8,500 kilometres of rail
track in New South Wales,
Queensland, South Australia,
Victoria and Western Australia.
ARTC was created after the Commonwealth and
State Governments agreed in 1997 to form a
one‑stop shop for all operators wanting access to
the national interstate rail network.
Since then our network has expanded and we have
invested billions into growing, upgrading and
maintaining the Interstate freight network and
Hunter Valley network to support industries and
businesses that are vital to the nation’s economy.
We are committed to becoming a customer
focused, engaged and collaborative partner
because we know our future growth depends on it.
Rail in Australia is on the brink of something great
and ARTC is more focused than ever on our vision
to make rail the mode of choice in the national
logistics chain.
OUR NETWORK
Our rail network is used to move a range of
commodities including general freight, coal, iron
ore, other bulk minerals and agricultural products
as well as providing access for interstate and inter-
city passenger services.
We operate two businesses: the Interstate and the
Hunter Valley network.
