Crossover commissioning success for North East Rail Line (VIC) upgrade

Recently, more than 50 of our North East Rail Line team worked a 60-hour possession to install two new sets of crossovers along a 100km section of track.

Ed Walker, ARTC General Manager Projects Vic & SA, said this was one of the $235 million project’s major milestones as it will minimise disruption to passengers during our normal works program, as they allow trains to switch from one track to another.

“In the short term, this will significantly improve track access for work crews, but ultimately it will increase operational flexibility and help maintain service reliability,” he said.

“These crossovers are good news for both rail passengers and freight traffic as they provide new passing opportunities for trains, helping alleviate delays when there is congestion on the line.”
