The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) can confirm around 11.15am Western Standard Time yesterday morning a Perth-bound freight train derailed near Rawlinna.
The incident site has been quarantined until safety investigators can attend the site.
Freight trains have been stowed at various locations along the rail network.
Initial estimates are approximately 400m of track damage but this is subject to further review on the ground.
Planning for repair to the track and recovery of rail operations is underway.
