CEO of ARTC John Fullerton today announced the appointment of Jonathan Vandervoort to
lead the company’s Hunter Valley business following a highly competitive national and
international recruitment search.
“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Jonathan to ARTC’s Executive team. He is
highly regarded within the resources and logistics industry and I look forward to him starting
in the role in January 2015.
“With nearly thirty years of experience in the Australian coal mining industry, which included
five years as the founding CEO of the Hunter Valley Coal Chain Coordinator, his
understanding of the industry, and its stakeholders, is exceptional.
“Currently Executive General Manager of Infrastructure for Whitehaven Coal, Jonathan has
also held several senior executive roles across the coal chain, including at Port Waratah
Coal Services, and has demonstrated an excellent track record in managing change within
complex logistics environments.
“For ARTC, that’s more important than ever as we work hard to strengthen our relationships
with our customers and find ways to bring innovation and efficiency to the Hunter Valley coal
chain, Mr Fullerton said.
Recruitment to this key executive position followed the announcement of a new company
structure in August which also included the appointment of Peter Winder as Executive
General Manager of ARTC’s Interstate business unit.
“These two appointments will drive the transformation of our company to embed customer
focus at the core of our business and drive commercial results by increasing the volume of
freight on our network across Australia,” Mr Fullerton said.
ARTC’s General Manager Infrastructure Gerard Withford, will continue to act as EGM Hunter
Valley until Mr Vandervoort takes up the role in January.

- ARTC manages the Hunter Valley rail network which facilitates the moment of an
average of 300 trains per day – including coal trains, passenger, bulk and general freight
trains. - Since 2007 ARTC has invested more than $1.5 billion in capital upgrades of the Hunter
Valley network. - In 13/14 more than 163 million tonnes of coal was transported via the ARTC network.
- The Hunter Valley Coal chain is the world’s largest coal export operation.
