ARTC Trackwork Extension on Hunter Line

BUSES REPLACING TRAINS ON UNTIL 6PM WEDNESDAY 12 MARCH

CityRail is advising Hunter Line commuters, that alternative transport arrangements will be in place until 6pm Wednesday 12 March due to a further extension to current signalling upgrade works at Telarah being undertaken by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC).

Over the past two weeks, ARTC has been installing a new signalling system, which will allow a more efficient operation of trains. The work has involved modifications to the complex signal system in the Telarah area.

An ARTC spokesperson said that as a result of some technical difficulties and required system modifications, further testing prior to commissioning has been necessary and this has extended the scheduled completion date.

“This was not what ARTC had planned, but the strict safety and operational requirements of both ARTC and CityRail mean that services cannot resume until March 12,” said an ARTC spokesperson.

CityRail spokesperson, Jo Fowler, apologised for the inconvenience to local commuters and offered assurance that everything is being done to minimise the service disruption and journey times.

“We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused by this late notification and appreciate their understanding that these arrangements are outside of our control,” said Jo Fowler.

The following alternative transport arrangements will be in place on the Hunter Line:

  • All trains which normally start and terminate at Telarah will now start and terminate at Maitland
  • Buses will replace trains between Telarah and Maitland
  • Trains to and from Dungog will not be affected and will continue to stop at Telarah.

““We remind our passengers that replacement buses do not operate to the scheduled timetable and they should allow an additional journey time of up to 15 minutes,” said Jo Fowler.

For more information on alternative transport arrangement passengers should visit www.cityrail.info, check at their local station or call the Transport Infoline on 131500.
