ARTC Joins with Engineers Australia in Professional Development Program for Rail Engineers

Australian Rail Track Corporation Ltd (ARTC) today launched a Professional Development Program (PDP) with Engineers Australia at their Head Office in Adelaide aimed at the professional development and retention of skilled engineering staff in the rail industry.

“Engineering plays a significant role in our business and the relevant competencies of our engineering team are vital to our future.” ARTC Chief Executive David Marchant said at the launch

“This Professional Development Program is a three way winner providing significant advantages for the three stakeholders involved: ARTC, the individual members of our engineering team and Engineers Australia.” David Marchant said

The PDP scheme which is being initially piloted by ARTC in South Australia is intended to be rolled out nationally to all ARTC offices throughout Australia.

ARTC’s Chief Executive David Marchant and Ian McEwan Executive Director of Engineers Australia South Australian Division signed the Agreement on behalf of their organisations.

“Engineers Australia is pleased to partner with ARTC in this program. It recognises the practical and professional engineering experiences of graduates and experienced engineers as well as providing a structured development plan by ARTC that ensures the appropriate experiences are attained within the departments of the company.”. Ian McEwan said.

Completion of the PDP will lead to Chartered Engineer status for both professional and paraprofessional engineers with postnominals to follow. The assessment for Chartered status requires a successful interview conducted by a panel of senior engineers, a presentation to the panel on a significant engineering project and a series of attested episode reports demonstrating an appropriate level of work experience.

The Professional Development Program is part of ARTC’s ongoing commitment to training and development of its employees. The PDP will work hand in hand with the Mentoring Program which ARTC successfully introduced for all members of its company across its national nail network in 2006.

ARTC as a major infrastructure company is responsible for over 10,000kms of interstate standard gauge rail track from the Queensland to Kalgoorlie and is committed to the best possible training and professional development for all staff

including the important engineering component of our workforce.” David Marchant said..
